Scripture: Psalm 91:1-2 – “Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.”

What it means

More comforting scripture from the Psalms…there is much language in the Old Testament, and in the Psalms in particular, that speak of resting in the shelter, or the shadow, of The Lord. When you were growing up, what safer place was there to be than in the lap of your mom or dad? When you had a tough day on the playground and your world was falling apart, just sitting in the lap of your parent while they stroked your hair and assured you that everything was going to be okay was all you needed. Guess what? That is one thing that we don’t necessarily have to outgrow! You see, God offers us that same level of protection and reassurance, even as we grow much older. We still need to be reassured from time to time, and God’s lap is always open. He provides shelter in His presence, and rest from all of our worries.

What it means to me

There’s a lot of darkness out there in the world…lots that we could be afraid of and upset by if we chose to focus on it, there’s no getting around that. But, what we tend to forget (at least I do)…is that the hosts of heaven are guarding our coming and going every moment of every day, and they far outnumber the powers of darkness that could threaten us. I’m not saying to pretend there’s nothing to be afraid of…just remember that “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” He will always love us, always protect us, and always have our best interest at heart…even in the face of our enemies, we don’t ever, ever have to lose hope and think that all is lost, because it truly isn’t. God is good, all the time, and…well, you can finish the rest 😊

Love you guys, talk to you on Thursday!

In Christ,

Brian
