Scripture: Hebrews 10:24-25 – “And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, 25 not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.”

What it means

Lots of good, solid advice from the apostle Paul…where to start? Well, not only are we supposed to perform good deeds and love others, but we’re to encourage others to follow our lead and do likewise.  One great way to do that is to continue to meet in God’s house regularly – there’s just nothing like being together face to face and lifting each other up in love and encouragement.  It’s easy to get down with life’s challenges and hardships, but when we are together, we accomplish many things – we learn, we worship, and we are reminded that we are ultimately part of something greater than ourselves.  We’re part of the forever family of God, and no matter how alone we may feel at any given point in time…we’re really not.

What it means to me

Jan and I love Mexican food, and our favorite restaurant to frequent, hands down, is Los Amigos in Maryville. I recently saw a Facebook post that cracked me up, but it was absolutely the truth: “I’ve never seen anybody leave Los Amigos in a bad mood.”  And for those of us who are followers of Jesus, the same should be true for us when we leave worship on Sunday morning – we should never leave in a bad mood, no matter how bad the sermon is 😊 We should feel like we had our batteries recharged for another week in the trenches – if for no other reason, because we have hopefully spurred one another on toward love and good deeds and encouraged each other.  I am miserable when I have to miss church, for whatever reason.  It’s where I’m supposed to be, and when I’m not, it throws me off.  So let’s continue to keep meeting and being an encouragement to our brothers and sisters in Christ – I really need it!

Love you guys, see you on Sunday!

In Christ,

Brian
