Scripture: Isaiah 46:3-4 – ““Listen to me, you descendants of Jacob, all the remnant of the people of Israel, you whom I have upheld since your birth, and have carried since you were born.
4 Even to your old age and gray hairs I am he, I am he who will sustain you.  I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you.”

What it means

This is comforting scripture for those of us who a bit more mature…you’ll get there one day, trust me 😊 From the prophet Isaiah, we are promised that even to those of us with old age and gray hair (or no hair in my case), we will still be taken care of.  God will carry us and sustain us, and even rescue us if necessary.  All of His children will be well taken care of…and that is indeed comforting news for those of us who are getting older and unsure of where our help will come from.  Not all of us have children that we can depend on to provide care for us, so that can be somewhat tricky, but at the end of the day, God offers us His promise to take good care of us, and for that – we should be grateful!

What it means to me

Jan and I have a slightly different perspective on this topic, as our concern isn’t necessarily for ourselves, but for our son Harrison should anything happen to us.  Accordingly, we haven’t even completed a will as of yet, as we aren’t sure of who we could ask to take care of Harrison.  It is a huge responsibility, and most of the people that come to mind within our family are either getting older like Jan and I, or are extremely busy with their own lives, so we go round and round trying to find just the right person(s) to ask.  I suppose we just need to bite the bullet and ask somebody, but at the same time, we can also draw comfort from this passage in Isaiah.  Should anything tragically happen to both Jan and I, we need to remember that Harrison is under God’s protective umbrella and will be taken care of – period.  God made him and will carry him; He will sustain him and rescue him.  The same holds true for each one of you – you are His precious child, and you will be taken care of and provided as well.

Love you guys, talk to you on Thursday!

In Christ,

Brian
