“God grant you the light of Christmas, which is faith;

The warmth of Christmas, which is purity;

The righteousness of Christmas, which is justice;

The belief in Christmas which is truth;

The all in Christmas, which is Christ.” – Wilda English

What it means

Something a little different today…thought this was pretty rich as we consider the deeper meanings of Christmas, and what they are for each of us.  As we seek the light, warmth, righteousness and belief in Christmas, they lead us to some pretty cool end results: faith, purity, justice & truth.  I would be most grateful to receive those characteristics in my everyday life, as most of us would.  But if we want it all when it comes to all things Christmas (and don’t all of us really want it all, no matter what “it” is), then the solution is quite simply – it’s Jesus.  Just Jesus.

What it means to me

Christmas means different things to all of us, and that’s okay.  As we consider how we grew up and the many Christmas traditions we experienced, and carried many of them into our lives today, they are different than anybody else’s.  But as we get to the heart of what Christmas should mean to each one of us, irregardless of background, family history, etc…it really is about the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  Whether we get that big screen TV, new laptop, expensive vacation, or whatever else your heart desires…we can all get Jesus.  We get the promise of everlasting, eternal life in heaven with Heaven if we just take the time to open the greatest Christmas present we could ever hope to receive.

For whatever reason, if there’s anybody reading this devotional that doesn’t know Jesus as your Lord, and as your Savior…I would strongly urge you to get to know Him.  He is all that you will need in this life and in the life to come.  He gives us reason for hope, even when hope doesn’t seem to exist.  He is the one that makes all things new.  If you’d like to know more about Jesus, please reach out to me and let’s chat – it might be a talk that changes the future trajectory of your life for the better.

Love you all – Merry Christmas, look forward to seeing you at our Christmas Eve service at 5:30 on Saturday night, and then for worship the next morning at 10:30!

In Christ,

Brian
