Scripture: Psalm 86:11 – “Teach me your way, Lord, that I may rely on your faithfulness; give me an undivided heart, that I may fear your name.”

What it means

Here’s another great prayer offered up by King David, entitled “A prayer of David.” I continue to be stunned at the depth of David’s faith…in spite of the many great sins he committed during his lifetime, he truly was a man after God’s own heart. Much of what he asks for is for God to teach him – about His ways, His desires, His truth…because if he can plug into all that God wants to teach him, then he will accomplish infinitely greater things than what he is capable of accomplishing on his own. In this particular Psalm/song, he grasps what will enable him to plug into God’s plan – an undivided heart. If we think about it, that’s a pretty rare thing these days, isn’t it? There are many things that vie for the affections of our heart – some good, and some not so much…so if we can offer our heart totally and undivided, then He can accomplish some amazing things in and through us.

What it means to me

I wish I had just a smidgen of the faith exhibited by King David…my ministry would be much more effective and honoring to The Lord, as would all of ours! Let’s join David in asking for God to not just teach us His ways, but to allow us to learn with an undivided heart. I don’t recall ever hearing that in scripture, but goodness, how powerful our witness would be if we could offer God not just part of our heart, but all of it – totally and completely!

Love you guys, talk to you on Thursday!

In Christ,

Brian
