Scripture: Hebrews 4:14 (Message translation) – “Now that we know what we have - Jesus, this great High Priest with ready access to God - let's not let it slip through our fingers.”

What it means

There is still much debate over who wrote the book of Hebrews.  Most biblical scholars believe it to be Paul, but there are many aspects of this book that indicate that this might not be the case.  In any event…it is a rich part of our scriptures, and this particular passage points out one of the many titles of Jesus – a great High Priest! This High Priest, as you well know, makes it possible for us to have communion with God.  I would encourage you to also read verses 15 & 16 – so very rich! We have this High Priest who knows everything that we go through in life, and sympathizes with us…and still encourages us to approach His throne of grace with the utmost confidence that He hears us, He cares about us…and that He loves us very much.

What it means to me

I chose to look at this passage in The Message translation primarily because of the language of the latter part of verse 14 – “let's not let it slip through our fingers.”  We have a golden opportunity to draw close to The Creator of the Universe and to His Son and our Savior – let’s not blow it, and let it slip through our fingers.  If we skip ahead to Hebrews 12:2, we are encouraged to “fix our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith.”  You see, He’s the King – the High Priest “with ready access to God.”  Let’s not let it slip through our fingers – there’s too much riding on this.

Love you guys, talk to you on Thursday!

In Christ,

Brian
