Scripture: Acts 10:34-35 – “Then Peter began to speak: “I now realize how true it is that God does not show favoritism but accepts from every nation the one who fears him and does what is right.”

What it means

This entire chapter is well worth the time to read…both Simon Peter and a centurion named Cornelius received visions from an angel of God. Cornelius was told to go find Peter and wait for further instructions, while Peter received an odd message telling him to “Get up Peter. Kill and eat.” This went against all that Peter believed in, and he protested “Surely not, Lord. I have never eaten anything impure or unclean.” Then a voice from Heaven spoke to him a second time: “Do not call anything impure that God has made clean.” This same message came to Peter three times, so it was evidently important that Peter grasp what the angel had to say to him. When Cornelius arrived a short time later, Peter informed him “You are well aware that it is against our law for a Jew to associate with or visit a Gentile. But God has shown me that I should not call anyone impure or unclean.” He goes on to share with Cornelius in verses 34 & 35 that “God does not show favoritism, but accepts from every nation the one who fears him and does what is right.” He then went on to share the message of Jesus, and as he shared, the Holy Spirit came upon all who were listening…even the Gentiles.

What it means to me

Peter goes onto say “Surely no one can stand in the way of their being baptized with water. They have received the Holy Spirit just as we have.” Again, God doesn’t show favoritism – all are welcome to receive the message of hope and salvation, not just a select few. Jews, Gentiles, Romans, Pharisees, as well as sinners like you and me – all are welcome. Our job is to fear Him and do what is right…he takes care of the rest.

Be in prayer for the family of Jean Yarborough as we have the service to honor her on Friday evening at 7:00 at Miller's Funeral Home.  She was a great, Godly woman who will be sorely missed, but she's finally home.

Love you guys, see you on Sunday!

In Christ,

Brian
