Scripture: Psalm 118:8-9 – “It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in humans. It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in princes.”

What it means

I know, we just spent four weeks looking at Psalm 119 in September, but this is a pretty good chapter as well (118). The message is pretty clear – it is much more effective to put our hope and our trust in The Creator of the Universe – no big surprise there, but if you look at the rest of the chapter, you see a little of the testimony of the author. Verse 5: “When hard pressed, I cried to the Lord; he brought me into a spacious place.” Verse 11: “They surrounded me on every side, but in the name of the Lord I cut them down.” And the bookends of this chapter, verses 1 & 29 are identical: “Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever.”

What it means to me

Again, the message is pretty simple, but it is embarrassing how often I forget this simple truth. We all like to put our complete trust in fellow human beings, but the success rate of humans vs. The Lord is a wee bit lacking. It will always behoove us to be fully surrendered to The Lord and His perfect will in every situation that we have in our lives. He is good, all the time. He is eternal, all-powerful, and loves us with a love that we will never completely understand. So when you’re in a storm in your life, take refuge in The Lord. He will keep you safe and shelter you from the bad stuff.

Love you guys, talk to you on Thursday!

In Christ,

Brian
