Devotional for May 28, 2024

Scripture: Ephesians 1:17 – “I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better.”

What it means

So, what’s the big deal about having wisdom and revelation – even wisdom and revelation from God? And even if He would so choose to bless us with them, what are we supposed to do with them? Let’s read on to verse 18: “I ask that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened, so that you may know the hope of His calling, the riches of His glorious inheritance in the saints…”

You see that? We all need hope, don’t we? And not just hope, but the hope that comes from the calling that He has for each one of us – and yes, we all do have a calling of some sort, make no mistake.

What it means to me

As always, what’s in it for us? Unfortunately, that’s how we’re wired, isn’t it? But God, in His infinite grace and mercy, has something in it for us after all – “the riches of His glorious inheritance in the saints.”  Not bad, huh? I have a long standing joke about wanting to receive a phone call, informing me of some long-lost relative who had died and left a vast fortune to me. Well, this is even better – this is an inheritance that comes straight from The Creator of the Universe, God himself…so it is eternal, and yes indeed – it is glorious as well.  There’s not much better that He can bless us with – wisdom and revelation.  When we have those two traits, then it enables us to know Him better, and to be in a better position to give Him the praise and honor and glory that He so richly deserves.  It is all about Him, you know…

Love you guys, take care and we’ll talk on Thursday!

In Christ,

Brian
