Devotional for May 30, 2024

Scripture: Ephesians 2:8-10 – “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast. 10 For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”

I absolutely love this scripture – the core message of the gospel right here.  It’s not about us, it was never intended to be about us, and it should never be about us in the future.  It is all about the unmerited, radical, amazing grace of God.  The more that we can plug into this and not make the gospel message any more complicated than it needs to be – we can remove any thought that we somehow deserve this in any way, shape or form, or that there’s anything that we could possibly do to make God love us any more…because there’s not.  It is all about Him, “so that no one can boast.”

What it means

And not only that, but this also tells us that we are God’s handiwork for the sole purpose of doing good works for The Kingdom.  We all have good works that we can contribute – some are big and flashy and obvious to the world, and some are more subtle, behind the scenes type of jobs that are absolutely just as important as the more obvious ones.  It doesn’t matter – they are all important to God, and they were all “prepared in advance for us to do.”  So let’s keep our eyes, ears, and heart open to all the The Lord Jesus wants us to contribute…and bring a smile to His face!

Love you guys, take care and we’ll see you in church on Sunday!

In Christ,

Brian
